Introduction In order to describe the geology of an area, geologists usually group areas of the same geological structure, evolution and age into what they call ’Geotectonic’ or ‘Geological Zones’. On a smaller scale, rocks of the same age, composition and genesis (way of origin) are called ‘Formations’. Usually, the names of the formations are derived from the names of areas where these rocks are most widespread.
