The Main Aquifers of Cyprus 


Hydrogeologists have mapped and delineated tens of small and large aquifers in Cyprus.  Several of these aquifers have well-defined boundaries and are isolated but many others have less well-defined boundaries and are in hydraulic connection with other aquifers. Most of the alluvial aquifers, for example, merge with coastal plain aquifers with which they are hydraulically connected. In a recent study carried out by the Water Development Department (WDD) in co-operation with the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (UNFAO), 66 discrete aquifers have been delineated and examined.
